If you're in Mexico, you're in for a treat. Mexican cuisine is truly unique and the tacos are one of the most popular dishes in the country.

The word taco has its origins in the Latin word “tacere” which means “to hold or to place a thing within." It's no wonder that Mexican tacos have been around since pre-Columbian times when maize was used for tortillas instead of wheat flour.
The meal consists of two small tortillas or corn shells with meat (or other ingredients) inside.

Mexican cuisine is mainly influenced by three things: Indigenous foods before the Spanish conquest, Spanish colonization, and modern globalization.
The food of Mexico consists of a complex mélange of Native American traditional food (including corn), European-introduced ingredients (including wheat flour, chili peppers, beef, pork and beans) indigenous to Mesoamerica (such as avocado) and internally generated Mexican ingredients such as chocolate.

Mexican cuisine is one of the most popular foods in the world. The cuisine is so popular that it has been integrated into many different cultures in America. There are a lot of regions that have their own style of Mexican food and restaurants.
A common misconception about Mexican food is that it's all about tacos, burritos, and rice and beans. While these dishes are all commonly served in Mexican restaurants, they represent only a small fraction of the cuisine’s diversity.

In Mexico, there are tacos everywhere; they are a staple food for the Mexican people. Tacos originated from pre-Hispanic times and were eaten by the farming communities as hand-held meals. Tacos are now eaten all over Mexico and in some places, they can be found on many street corners.
There is no one specific type of taco but many different types that all have their own uniqueness to them. Some of these tacos are made with wheat or corn tortillas while others use corn products like masa or nixtamalized corn flour. The fillings in each taco vary depending on the region but all include meat (pork, chicken, beef, goat), fish, vegetables (tomato, onion), and spices (chili pepper).

Now where to get fresh tacos in or around Nuevo Vallarta?

There are almost always street food stands around the OXXO stores.
If you know where the traffic circle is on Boulevard Nuevo Vallarta (where La Dolce Vita restaurant is), just head a few steps North toward the OXXO and you will find several food stands on both sides of the road.
If this isn't enough for you, we'd recommend to go to Valle Dorado (acrosse Hwy 200), or just head to downtown Bucerias.

Please share in the comments where you have found the best tacos in the area.
